General Issues
The Committee have received a number of complaints from those people who volunteer to referee a game when the League is unable to appoint an official Referee. These mainly concern the failure of players to abide by decisions, allegations of unfairness and on occasions threatening behaviour that has caused the abandonment of games. Whilst the League would much prefer to be in a position to appoint official Referees to all games, numbers offering their services are insufficient to cover all games. Sadly this is due in no small part to the attitude of players as evidenced by the increasing number of players who are being suspended for abusing match officials. The Committee would remind all Clubs and their Players that when somebody offers to referee the game they are doing so in order that you may get a game of football. Clubs and players are reminded that a volunteer official has the same powers as an appointed Referee and he/she may issue cautions, send players off and report misconduct to Essex County F.A. all with the full support of the League.
On a similar theme, the Committee would remind all Clubs, their Officials and Players that it is their responsibility to ensure that behaviour on and off the pitch is reasonable, within the Laws of the Game and acceptable under any social or legislated requirements. Clubs will be held responsible for reports of foul language, obscene gestures and abuse in any form. Clubs are reminded that it is illegal for any person to abuse another relating to race, creed or colour and any reports of this type of behaviour will be passed to our governing body (Essex County F.A.) and the legal authorities for prosecution under the relevant legislation.
The telephone number for Match Results on Sundays has now reverted to Peter King’s original number 01702 312968. Please don’t forget that you must ring Peter on Sundays between 2pm and 4pm.
Clubs are advised that Tony Christie is unable to continue in his position on the Management Committee due to family commitments. Tony has been involved with the League for many years with Rochford United and served on the Committee from 1985 to 88 and as Match Results Secretary from 1997 to 2007. The Committee are extremely grateful for Tony’s contribution to the League and on behalf of all those involved in Sunday football wish him good luck for the future.
There are vacancies on the Management Committee that the League would like to fill. The League is particularly interested in increasing representation from participating Clubs. If anyone is interested in assisting in the administration of the League, please contact the Hon. Secretary.
Congratulations to Hockley British Legion who are through to the quarterfinal of the Essex Junior Cup. They play Fusion F.C. at home on 3rd February.
And finally, those Clubs who will be playing in the Semi-Final rounds of the League Cup and Charity Cup Competitions are reminded that they must submit a list of potential players and substitutes to the Registration Secretary one week before the fixture in order that the eligibility of the players can be confirmed. [Cup Rule 5 B].
