The Southend Sunday Football League

(Founded 1964)

Season 2007/2008 - 44th Year

Newsletter 5 - 18th November 2007

The League has been contacted by Essex County F.A. following the receipt by them of official complaints from local Councils about bad language that has been heard and reported by members of the public whose houses are close to or when they are visiting public parks that provide football facilities for local clubs. This matter was raised by Essex County F.A. with all Clubs earlier this year. Official complaints received by Councils has now raised the issue again to the extent that there is a real threat that Clubs who fail to reasonably control their players will have their pitches withdrawn. I must ask that all Club Officials and Players make every effort to moderate their language during the course of the game.

Our Charity Competition has considered nominations for donations to local charities and the following organisations will receive a grant from the proceeds of the 2006-07 Competition. The Burned Children's Club (St. Andrews Hospital Burns Unit). Home from Home (Helping Families deal with Cystic Fibrosis in young Children). Christopher's Cottage (Respite Care and Sports Centre for Children with Learning and Physical Disabilities). Essex Air Ambulance. Southend Riding Club for the Disabled. A total of £ 3,050 will be donated between these associations.

Carlyle Sports - James Greenfield. You are aware that James and his partner were involved in a serious car accident last month on his way to play football. The Committee would commend most highly the actions of Anthony Mash and Keith Skedge of CZ81 F.C. who on seeing the accident, stopped and pulled James and his partner from the burning car which brave act certainly saved their lives. The latest news is that James is still in ICU but is making some progress. His partner has been discharged from hospital.

Please note Progress United in Division 4 have a new Secretary. Lee Cross address 37, Shellbeach Road, Canvey SS8 7NT Tel. No. 07846271672 Emergency Contact now Chris Sutton 07740921532

Finally, may I remind all Clubs that you are required to have your Registration Counterfoils (photo IDs) and a Match Result Sheet at every game. Some Clubs are sending in Match Result Sheets that have not been countersigned by their opponents which could indicate that the Registration Counterfoils were not reviewed. Failure to provide the Registration Counterfoils is a breach of Rule 10(I) and will result in Clubs being fined.
