The Southend Sunday Football League

(Founded 1964)

Season 2007/2008 - 44th Year

Newsletter 4 - 10th October 2007

I regret to have to report another Club have had to withdraw a team from the League. Trinity F.C. have been unable to make a commitment to field their 1st team in Division 1. Whilst our Rules would normally require their second and other teams to step up, the Committee have agreed that they may withdraw their team from Division 1 as their second team was due to play in Division 3 and only moved up to Division 2 at our request to fill a vacancy.

The reduction in the number of teams in the Premier Division was discussed at our October meeting and it was agreed that Premier teams will play each other three times this season. The Fixtures Secretary will allocate the third games as evenly as possible allowing for pitch availability. Clubs are requested to note that the Referee Fee for the third game should be shared.

I am pleased to report that the League has managed to obtain four additional Referees for our List. However, we are still short of the required number. The Referees Secretary allocates the available Referees on the Fixtures List based on their availability and Clubs who are not assigned a Referee should not contact the Referees Secretary as he would not have any further Referees to appoint. If a Referee should become available, the Referees Secretary would contact the Club.

It has been reported that some Clubs are using photocopies of the Player Registration Counterfoil (photo ID) on match days. Please note that you must show the original Counterfoil to your opponents for verification. This is required because the Counterfoil for those players who were registered for the same Club last season have been stamp embossed to confirm registration this season and the embossing is not evident on copies.

It has also been reported that Clubs are not always clearing their rubbish (orange peel, water bottles, tape etc.) from the side of your pitches after the game. Where rubbish bins are provided, please make use of them. If no bins are provided, please take it with you.

Note for the diary. Cup Finals will be played Sunday 27th April and Sunday 4th May at the Borough Combination Ground Eastwoodbury Lane as last season.

With regard to the Charity Competition, I have received a small number of suggestions for donations that will be considered at our November meeting. However, if anybody would like to put forward further organisations for consideration, please let me know by no later than 31st October.

Finally, my thanks to those who spotted my error in the previous Newsletter. I managed to name Darren Ball as Secretary of both Haystack Dreamboys and Vichouse Sports. The Secretary of Haystack Dreamboys is Andy Comrie but the address and telephone number shown in the Newsletter and on the Website is correct.
