The Southend Sunday Football League

(Founded 1964)

Season 2009/2010 - 47th Year

Newsletter 3 - February 2010

When issuing the December Newsletter I was hoping that we may have seen the worst of the weather for this season. Instead, further snow, frozen and now waterlogged pitches and the withdrawal of Southend Black Cats FC from Div 4 are causing more problems for the Fixtures Secretary. Clubs are requested to make every effort to get games played as it may be difficult to complete the programme even if the Pitch Providers extend the hire period.

Whilst it might seem a bit early, I have to start preparations for next season and the first matter to bring to your attention is Competition Rules for 2010-11. Essex County F.A. are now co-ordinating the Rules for all Leagues and these will now be common across the County (and Country) for next season. The Rules are based on a modified version of the F.A. Standard Code that incorporates elements of our existing Rules such as those covering Photo Registrations and the relating Match Day Procedures. Whilst there has been some reorganisation of the Rules it is not proposed that the new version will contain any changes to our current Rules unless any proposals are received for consideration by the Committee. Any changes will need to be submitted to ECFA for verification before they can be presented for adoption at the AGM. Any Club who wishes to put forward a Rule Change for consideration must let me have details by no later than 5th March [Rule 20]. The revised version of our Rules, together with any proposed changes, will be circulated to Clubs with the AGM Agenda. Please note the AGM will be held on Wednesday 30th June and not 23rd June so as to avoid any clash with match days of a certain football competition being held in South Africa.

Another matter to bring to the attention of those Clubs who are current holders of Cups and Trophies is that these must be returned to the Trophy Officer – Tony Offord – by no later than 31st March. Please remember to call Tony [01702 347213] to make arrangements for you to deliver the Cup or Trophy to him at a convenient time.

Finally, a couple of changes to the Handbook (already noted on Website)
